SCLC Dallas
Dreamkeeper's Scholarship Program

The SCLC Dallas chapter has established this scholarship program for high school graduating students:

  1. A. Promote the higher education of students in the DFW area.
    B. Provide greater access and financial support to local students.
    C. Recognize students that are actively supporting their community, church, and performing successfully in their academic programs.

Eligibility:

1. Graduating high school students who have a GPA of 3.0 and above in their academic coursework.

2. Students who are actively participating in community or extra-curricular campus activities.

3. Students that are active members and are in good standing with the leaders of their local worship facility.

4. Students who have been accepted into a post secondary training institution.

Requirements:

1. Students must submit a copy of current high school transcript indicating a GPA of 3.0 or above.

2. 500-word essay on how your current activities are fulfilling the Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

3. Must commit to participate in at least two SCLC activities for award year. ie. MLK parade participation considered as one event

4. A brief letter to the SCLC Dallas board indicating your academic goals and career intentions. Be sure to include your desired academic major and the inspiration for your current academic pursuits as well as your personal action plan for success.

5. Two letters of recommendation from principal, teacher, spiritual or community leaders.

1) The scholarship award details and limitations:

  1. a) $500.00 per year not to exceed $2,000.00 over a 5 year period
    b) Issued no more than a period of 5 years after their high school graduation.

2) Award can be used for:

  1. a) Books
    b) Supplies
    c) Fees
    d) Meals
    e) Tuition
    f) Dorm expenses

3) The scholarship funds would come from?

  1. a) Donations from public or private sources
    b) Yearly fund-raisers.

4) The financial award would be given to:

  1. a) The institution for use by the student or...
    b) If the institution doesn’t have the means to establish an account for the student then the student will be awarded the funds

5) The funds would be available:

  1. a) Once all of the requirements have been met
    b) At the start of the fall term or semester

The scholarship award ceremony will take place in February 2010 (date, time and location to be announced)

All information must be submitted no later than:

10:00pm on Sunday, January 31st, 2010
